TYPICAL DANCES

There are different types of dances that are largely influenced by European classical music.

The most prominent are:

• THE GERMAN POLKA: Is a type of music that has a very strong tone and is played with tuba, double bass, clarinet, accordion and sometimes drums. People dance with side steps and fast evolutions.

•  THE LÄNDLER: Dance of Bavaria area that is characterized by setting the pace when stepping. This dance became popular in the eighteenth century and evolved considering it an ancestor of the waltz.

• THE SCHWERTERTANZ: This dance also known as the sword dance, is one of the oldest which originated in the German lands.
